38th Annual Old Time Fiddlers Contest
Lovers of Old-Time Fiddle music will want to attend the 38th Annual Old Time Fiddle Contest, to be held on Saturday May 21, 2011. Since 1974 the Central Fraser Valley Fiddlers have been hosting this annual event to showcase local talent and recognize the accomplishments of any fiddler willing to take the stage.
The event will be held at the Abbotsford Senior’s Association Hall at 33889 Essendene Ave in downtown Abbotsford.
The festivities begin early Saturday morning when competitors come together to register for the event.
Registration runs from 8:30am to 9:30am
At 10:30 am the competition begins with the preliminaries. The Junior Juniors (9yrs & under) are first up and always a crowd pleaser. These fiddlers are invited to play their best Old Time reel. This is a great opportunity for them to experience playing on a stage alone. The next group will be the Junior Category (12yrs & under). From this category onwards, all contestants must play 3 tunes: a waltz, a jig and a reel, in that order, and all which have to be completed within a 4 minutes period.
As the day goes on the fiddling will continue with the Youth Category (17 years and under), the Intermediate Class (ages18-64), the Senior Category (65 and better), followed by the Open Class, Twin Fiddle and finishing up with the Championship Category. Those who place in the top four of their category will go on to play in the finals.
Admission to this popular event is $10.00 for the entire day
Refreshments will be available.
